What can you do about it ?

Moisture or hydration is essential to dry skin.   You need skin care products that will gently and effectively cleanse while not stripping your skin of it's natural oils.  Also, because your skin can be sensitive, you need to avoid artificial fragrances and sulfates and other known irritants. You can use Gentle Milk Cleanser as your daily cleanser.   Keeping your acid mantle (protective oil and water layer) intact is vital to a glowing healthy skin as well.

Mild exfoliation will help even the skin tone and remove build up, but too much or too rough an exfoliation can be irritating and abrasive.  Using AHA/BHA at least once a week would be ideal for your skin type.

To complete the cleansing process and to restore he skin's PH balance, use either Sensitive Skin or Rosewater Tonic.

To help smooth the skin and improve the appearance of dark spots and an uneven skin tone, as well as to  repair the acid mantle, use Rapid Repair Serum.

A lightweight hydrating moisturizer like Rosewater Hydrating Cream or Quench Moisturizer  will help your skin maintain it's moisture level; and

last but not least sun protection of SPF 30 or more would be fantastic!  Sunscreen not only helps to ward off cancer, but it helps even your skin tone too !  EvenSkin SPF 30 would be great.

And never  wash your face with hot water.   Light steaming of not more than once per week would be beneficial especially if done at night along with your evening regimen.

What is Dry Skin ?

So what exactly what does it mean to have dry skin ?    Simply stated, dry skin lacks sufficient sebum (oil) and moisture (water) or both.   Usually the skin has a thin layer of lipids or fats that form together to create a waterproof barrier (acid mantle) that prevents moisture loss and keeps your skin soft and supple.

Have you ever noticed how soft and supple the skin of a grape is ?     If you touch it, it bounces back.  It is smooth, the color is bright and it is full of   water or moisture.    Now notice what happens once the grape becomes a raisin.   Touch a raisin's skin.  It is hard and inflexible.  The color is dark and it is no longer full of water or moisture.  You may notice it is also wrinkled.   Well the same thing happens to your skin as it begins to lose moisture.   It becomes hard, tight, blotchy, and wrinkles become more pronounced.

Additionally, a dry cracked skin is susceptible to bacterial invasion as well as dermatitis (inflammation, burning, itching, swelling, and infection).
